The aim of this course is to provide confined space education to all persons working within industries that utilise confined spaces (enclosed or partially enclosed) for the purpose of carrying out work or inspections and also is appropriate for those performing sentry or standby-by person roles. Industries include Civil, Construction, Coal Mining, Metalliferous Mining, Exploration, Drilling and Marine.
It is designed to provide the basic skills and knowledge that underpins safe work in confined spaces, to ensure the health and safety of all persons who have to enter, work in or on confined spaces, in compliance with the current legislative requirements of Work Health and Safety Act, the current Work Health and Safety Regulations and the current AS/NZS 2865.
All persons with work activities related to a confined space should attend, including those who:
Perform work in or around confined spaces
Have responsibility for the direct control of work in confined spaces
Are involved in emergency response and first aid procedures
AS/NZS 2865 requires reassessment 'at appropriate intervals'. The industry regards reassessment on a two to three year cycle as good practice.
