We offer our students a range of equine care and management courses as we are committed to developing your skills and knowledge to levels which frequently exceed the increasing requirements of employers in the industry.

Our courses will give you the relevant knowledge, understanding and practical skills necessary to be career ready at the end of your study. All aspects of the course are delivered at our Brooksby campus, where you can access a range of horses, from novice to advanced, and state-of-the-art facilities such as the Brooksby Equestrian Rehabilitation Centre.

Year 1 Modules

  • Equine Structure

  • Form and Function

  • Equine Diet and Nutrition

  • Work Experience in the Equine Sector

  • Horse Tack Equipment and Rugs

  • Equine Health and Husbandry

  • Preparation and Presentation of the Horse for Competition Disciplines

  • Equine Behaviour

  • Riding and Exercising Horses (Riding Pathway)

  • Riding Analysis and Theory (Non-Riding Pathway)

Year 2 Modules:

  • Managing Equine Disease

  • Managing an Equine Yard

  • Horse Fitness

  • Working Horses from the Ground

  • Managing Equine Injuries and Rehabilitation

  • Schooling Horses on the Flat (Riding Pathway)

  • Ground Poles and Grid Work for Horses (Riding Pathway)

  • Introduction to Equestrian Coaching (Riding Pathway)

  • Equine Business Management (Non-Riding Pathway)

  • Managing an Equine Event (Non-Riding Pathway)

  • Investigative Industry Project (Non-Riding Pathway)

Troop Royal Horse Artillery; Take an industry-relevant short course alongside your full-time qualification, such as Emergency First Aid; Careers talks from nationally and internationally recognised professionals; take part in charity events, themed weeks and exercise classes such as dodgeball, boxercise and yoga!  

Where could this course lead to?

Upon successful completion of the Level 3 course, learners can progress on to Higher Education and successful careers across all areas of the Equestrian industry, including grooms, riding instructors, eventing, behaviourists, rehabilitation, industry-retail, feed companies and teaching.

What qualifications or experience do I need?

5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above including English and Maths, or Level 2 Horse Care (or similar). If you miss the English and/or Maths requirements of your course, don't worry - there are options to study these alongside your course.
