This course focuses on the operations and safety aspects of excavation and trenching. Participants are introduced to practical soil mechanics and its relationship to the stability of shored/unshored slopes and walls.
Trenching & Excavation training is offered by Contractors' Safety Council. The CSCCB delivers safety and site-specific training and job safety orientations to contractors, as well as employees of eleven local refining and chemical plants.
The Excavation, Trenching, and Soil Mechanics course covers the OSHA Excavation Standard and safety and health aspects of excavation and trenching.
Participants are taught from OSHA’s excavation standard (29 CFR 1926-Subpart P) which requires workers in trenches and excavations to be protected. Can-ins are perhaps the most feared trenching hazard; but other potentially fatal hazards exist, including asphyxiation, toxic fumes, drowning.
