The practical component includes completing a Risk Analysis for the operation of the excavator, completing the pre-operational checks in line with site procedures / operator’s manual, demonstrating knowledge of the main operating controls of the excavator, and then operating it.
Course Contents
The practical component includes completing a Risk Analysis for the operation of the equipment, completing the pre operational checks in line with site procedures / operator’s manual, demonstrate knowledge of the main operating controls of the equipment, and then operating the equipment to:
Plan Work
Duty of care of all people in the workplace
Hazard identification and control measures
‘Take 5’ Risk Assessment
Pre operational checks in line with site procedures / operator’s manual
Conduct routine checks
Check controls and equipment
Operate as per manufacturer’s instructions (operator’s manual)
Demonstrate knowledge of the operating controls of the excavator
Shift load – Operate the excavator to:
Fill bucket efficiently
Dump soil/material on a pile
Dig trench to specified depth
Maintain level base of trench
Load a truck or hopper (if applicable)
Shut down equipment and secure site
