Program Overview
As a student in the Fashion Design Program, you’ll develop your own exceptional portfolio while learning innovative techniques to create unique designs. Essentials of trend forecasting, target marketing analysis, concept development, color and fabric stories, textile design, CAD design, fashion illustration, construction and production are taught with the latest methodologies to prepare you to enter the exciting and creative field of fashion. Historic Foundations For The Art Of Tomorrow.
In 1963, philip j. Steele founded rocky mountain school of art as a private, for-profit institution in the foothills of Colorado.
Already a well-known illustrator and educator himself, Phil wanted to develop an art training program based on the traditional, academic method of drawing and painting that dates back to the Renaissance.
His mission was to make RMCAD a ‘community of creatives’ that would instill in all students a passion for creativity, innovation, and a desire for lifelong learning—both in the fine arts and applied arts. He sought to nurture the individual talents of each student, to integrate critical thinking and analysis into their skills, and to contribute in socially responsible ways to the local, global, and professional communities.

This course offers an advanced study of the principles of patternmaking. Students will execute an original design using advanced patternmaking processes and industry techniques. Prerequisite: FASH 2382 Patternmaking II and junior or senior standing or by permission of the President.
The School of Fashion offers ten BFA degree programs, each designed to prepare you for work in the fashion industry.
The Fashion Design & Textile Art Program offers UC Fine Arts credits with hands-on learning focused on introducing students to the fashion industry career pathways. The classes explore different art mediums including technology, illustration, photography, cosmetology, sewing, and pattern making.
The Fashion Design program’s curriculum stimulates creative expression in all aspects of Fashion Design, including fashion sketching, creative design, computer applications, draping, and pattern drafting using state-of-the-industry technology.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design program trains students to develop a design practice with a strong focus on design context - emphasizing an understanding of the culture, history, and theory of fashion as well as the crucial business savviness needed to make their work market-ready.
