The Fashion Design Foundation provides students with the foundational skills and knowledge for intermediate and advanced study in fashion design or obtain an apprenticeship in the garment industry.
NYSD’s Fashion Design Foundation program serves as a gateway to fashion design for beginners. This program introduces the student to essential aspects of fashion design, including fashion terminology, elements of style, an overview of the fashion industry and its diverse careers, fashion illustration, and foundational sewing skills.
No prior experience in drawing, computer-aided design, or sewing is required to enroll in this program.
Skilled Teaching: Experienced educators simplify complex ideas, bridging theory to real-world use.
Practical Hands-on Learning: Learning fashion industry skills through practical activities.
Simulated Workplace Environment: Learn real job skills using fashion machines and tools in our design studios.
Upon program completion, you will:
Illustrate fashion figures and effectively convey design ideas and construct a Mood Board showcasing fashion illustration and flats
Apply fundamental design elements (lines, shapes, form, color, texture) and principles (balance, emphasis, proportions, harmony, variety, rhythm) in their designs.
Skillfully operate industrial sewing machinery for garment assembly. Create garment components.
