Description
Know how to draw the fashion figure and create a professional portfolio one step at a time:
1) Become a fashion artist & start thinking like one. In one day, you will start with a simple pencil and paper and end knowing how to draw the fashion figure. Add hair, hands, faces, feet and poses.
2) Use markers to add color, clothes and textures. Create fashion illustrations suitable for a portfolio
3) Draw movement with more detail on clothing: sleeves, collars, plackets, pleats, ruffles. And as easy as 1-2-3, you are a fashion artist!
Fashion Education for the Nation
Portland Fashion Institute was founded in 2002 as Portland Sewing with a beginning sewing class for just four students. Now, PFI offers beginner, intermediate and advanced sewing classes as well as three certificate programs in apparel business.
PFI graduates have gone on to do beautiful things. They hold executive positions at apparel manufacturers, compete (and win) at the highest level, and run their own thriving businesses. They fuel the fashion industry in Portland and around the world.
PFI courses can help you become industry proficient in clothing design, patternmaking, construction, manufacturing and production. All of our teachers work in apparel and are well-versed in current techniques. We are apparel people teaching apparel people. We welcome you to join us!
PFI Mission Statement
Portland Fashion Institute is a nonprofit fashion design school with a mission to introduce creative people to the apparel skills they need to get a job or better job in the industry — or to simply enjoy a more productive life. We believe in a debt free education while promoting a diverse, progressive, sustainable and ethical industry. Our goals:
— Changing people’s lives. Making fashion dreams come true.
— Real skills, real jobs, real world knowledge
After 5 years of teaching exclusively hand sewing and embroidery at schools, Miss Shannon's Sewing opened up their own studio to teach machine sewing. At the studio children become familiar with a sewing machine. They start by learning how to thread a machine, make a bobbin, and sew straight lines...
Learn to Sew. Not interested in our whole Program? Pick and choose through our Designer Development classes, and take them at your own pace. Receive the same caliber of education, for your own personal or professional growth.
In this series, you’ll learn how to take your sewn product idea through the entire development and manufacturing process.
Embroidery course is offered by Grome's Sewing Machine Company. Every class requires a 4 student minimum for the class to make. In the event that we do NOT have enough students we will refund your money.
Students ages 8 – 12 explore the fashion design process as they learn fashion illustration, pattern making, sewing, textile and jewelry design skills in just 4 OR 8 week classes. All students are welcome to participate in the KSOF Annual Fashion Show in May to showcase their hard work.
