This course will focus on the creative process of designing fashion apparel by gathering inspiration, creating mood boards, and sketching. Students will be introduced to the 5 essential considerations of fashion design: fabric, silhouette, design detail, proportion, and functionality.
This course will focus on the creative process of designing fashion apparel by gathering inspiration, creating mood boards, and sketching. Students will be introduced to the 5 essential considerations of fashion design: fabric, silhouette, design detail, proportion, and functionality. Students will sketch their design ideas on full length figures (croquis) and will learn how to talk about their ideas in class.
The course also covers flat sketching (symmetrical front and back sketch of a garment) which students can use as a construction guide in pattern making.
Upon registration, students will receive a Syllabus which includes a supply list.

Each student will have a sketchbook (provided) & design binder (also provided) that will be reviewed weekly. Sketchbooks will travel back and forth from home to class and students will be required to sketch for 5 hours a week in addition to class time sketching and instruction. Design binders will house designs, loose papers and sewing samples.
Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30
Wednesday - Fashion Design (3:30-5:30), Fashion Illustration (6-8pm)
Thursday - Fashion Sewing (3:30-5:30), Flat Pattern Making (6-8pm)
Friday - Costume Design (6-8pm)
Each In-Person Sewing & Pattern Making Class size limited to 5 students. Fashion Design Classes are limited to 6 students.

Inside The Sewing Roomac
In our Classroom you will find everything you need to start sewing. We have sewing machines for up to 6 students and several large cutting tables in addition to scissors, measuring tapes and plenty of seam rippers. The use of our machines and tools is included in the price of classes and camps at The Sewing Room.
