Course Details

Fashion technical designers transform imaginative designs from fashion sketches into tangible shelf products.  A technical designer plays a pivotal role in fashion production.

NYSD’s Fashion Technical Design is an intensive training program encompassing fashion design, apparel construction, and production techniques. Graduates acquire the ability to evaluate the design idea and create technical design drawings and production plans to ensure the end product adheres to exacting quality standards.

 

Program Highlights:

  • Production Planning: Explore the full production process – materials, design development, fit,  assembly, labeling, and quality control.
  • Fashion Supply Chain: Learn the interconnectedness of the fashion supple chain and production.
  • Software: Become proficient in digital design and Gerber Technology’s UniquePLM Production Management software.
  • Project Management: Gain skills to manage complex projects, from design to product delivery.

 

Curriculum:

Prerequisite (3 months)

  • Elements Principles of Fashion Design 45 hours

  • Fashion Illustration 60 hours

  • Sewing Basics 45 hours

 

Core Courses (12 months)

  • Fashion Textiles 45 hours

  • Digital Fashion Design 60 hours

  • 3D Fashion Design 60 hours

  • Sewing 90 hours

  • Patternmaking 90 hours

  • Draping 90 hours

  • Apparel Production 45 hours

  • Technical Package 75 hours

  • Career Seminar 15 hours

 

Program Outcomes

Upon program completion, you will:

  • Craft Tech Packs for precise manufacturing guidance.

  • Design technical flats,  specify fabric, closures, finishes, colorways.

  • Develop fit specifications, grading techniques, and sample evaluations to ensure standards.

  • Leverage Gerber Technology’s UniquePLM software to optimize production.
