Course Details

Eligibility: Independent and Certified Specialist in all specialty. (The procedure required to be learnt by candidates pertaining to their area of specialty).

Objectives of Programme:

  • To perform safe interventional pain procedure for all chronic pain condition and cancer pain condition respective to the candidate’s specialty
  • To understand bio-psycho-social approach in managing chronic and cancer pain condition.
  • To learn how to set up a basic pain clinic and comprehensive pain service.
  • Able to perform basic endoscopic spine procedure (only applicable to Neurosurgeon and Spine Surgeon)
  • To understand the importance and values of multidisciplinary specialties involving in management of chronic pain

Activities/Task:

  • Candidate will be required to perform all clinical activities at the level of a specialist i.e. run clinics, do ward rounds, perform interventional pain procedure confidently.
  • Candidate must attend at least once the International Interventional Pain Update with Emphasis on Interventional pain workshop (Fluroscopy and/or ultrasound guided) organised by UKM Advance Pain Management Centre and Malaysia Society of Interventional Pain Practitioner.
  • Candidate must observe all interventional pain procedure related to the candidate’s specialty.
  • Candidate must observe pain surgery so they can understand all option of Pain management.
  • Candidate must pass the written and viva examinations which will be held at mid-term and at one month prior to finishing the programme.
  • Candidates must able to perform basic interventional pain procedures independently before the final examination.
  • Candidate in advance fellowship should be able to perform simple endoscopic spine procedure, which applicable to Neurosurgeon and spine surgeon candidate.
  • Candidate must keep a log book and an audit of his/her performance.
  • Candidate must be contactable and regularly meet with course director.
  • Candidate is required to join all clinical and academic activities of UKM Advance Pain Mangement Centre.
  • Candidate must publish at least 1 manuscript in a WOS journal (for 1 year training) or be involved in the production of the manuscript (for 6 months training)
