All our tutors are not only practicing makers with a wealth of hands on knowledge in their craft, but are experienced teachers, with an understanding of different learning needs, what barriers may arise to your learning and how to empower you with your own making projects and ideas.
Barley Massey discovered the shop in the late 90’s during the Hidden Art open studios event. At that time, many of the shops were empty and boarded up along the Broadway Market.
It came to light that Hackney Council were accepting proposals from local business and artists to take on the empty shops to reovate and re energise them, which is what Barley did and continues to today! The space is very much alive and is a work in progress.
In this course we shall start at the very beginning with basic chains and wind our way through doubles, trebles with some increasing, decreasing and fancy bits along the way. The course is spread across 5 sessions which will allow us to build our knowledge gradually with lots of time.
The Spice of Life crochet blanket from Sandra Paul of Cherry Heart is a wonderful blanket which covers a range of techniques and stitches and is intended to help someone who has learnt the basics of crochet and is now looking to increase their crochet confidence.
Utilizing your knit, purl, and cast-on skills, you’ll be able to learn how to make these snuggly socks (although in class you will make a scaled-down version) learn how to knit the gusset, shape the heel and toe, and finally cast-off with Kitchener stitch.
This course is a fun introduction to hand knitting, with an emphasis on developing an experimental approach to your knitting.
Knitting and crochet keep your brain active, improve hand/eye coordination, can relieve symptoms of arthritis and help with relaxation.
