Who can take the Fire Awareness Extinguisher course?

The safe operation of a portable fire extinguisher is your first line of defense in protecting people and property in the event of a fire.

The main objective of our Fire Awareness Extinguisher training is to inform, demonstrate as well as provide confidence to employees in the safe and effective use of fire extinguishers in the workplace.

Fires start small therefore, they can be extinguished by well-trained, knowledgeable employees using the proper equipment.

Overview

In this course participants will go through a theory, short test as well as practical portion.  During the practical we do have a simulator that we use for participants to practical how to clear a fire with an extinguisher.

Upon successful completion of the Fire Awareness Extinguisher course, participants should be able to:

• Understand the issue of fire safety addressed by the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) legislation in Canada and identify the fire safety responsibilities of employers and those of workers

• Describe safe work practices therefore reducing the risk of fire

• Know what to do in the event of a fire

• Recognize fire-related situations in which the use of a fire extinguisher is appropriate and situations in which it is best to evacuate rather than try to put out the fire

• Identify the different types of extinguishers as well as classes of fire and the proper use for each type of extinguisher

• Know how to use a fire extinguisher as well as

• Understand the maintenance and servicing requirements related to fire extinguishers
