All employees who may be required to use a fire extinguisher should be trained on the following items, as serious repercussions may ensue if the employee is unaware of any of the following:

Type of fire risk in the workplace (e.g., electrical, chemical, etc.)
Selection of proper fire extinguisher class for each type of fire
How to read the markings (symbols and colours) on extinguishers
When and how to use fire extinguishers (P.A.S.S. method)
The importance of sounding the alarm
Health and safety hazards associated with fire in the workplace
Personal protective equipment associated with fire protection
