Course Details

To prevent injury and reduce potential damage to a workplace, building or structure an employer should ensure that all employees are trained in the safe use of fire extinguishers, fire hose reels, fire blankets and how to use a chemical spill kit. This training course includes a theory and practical component to ensure that your employees can safely handle workplace emergencies.

 

Course Outline

To prevent injury and reduce potential damage to a workplace, building or structure an employer should ensure that all employees are trained in the safe use of fire extinguishers, fire hose reels and fire blankets. They should also be aware of the effects of chemical spills, areas where they may occur and how to contain them using a chemical spill kit.

This training course includes a theory and practical component to ensure that your employees can safely handle workplace emergencies.

To ensure maximum benefit, this training course should be conducted with Fire Warden and Evacuation Training. If required, a Fire Safety trainer can visit your workplace to determine your fire safety equipment and training needs.

 

Course Subjects

  • Preparing for emergency situations

  • Identifying and assessing an emergency

  • Safely confining an emergency

  • Elements of combustion

  • Raising the alarm

  • Classes of fire

  • Types of fire extinguishers

  • Safety procedures when fighting fires

  • How to use a fire extinguisher, fire hose reel and fire blanket

  • Types of chemicals

  • Characteristics of chemical spill kits

  • Correct use of a chemical spill kit

 

Participants will gain hands-on experience fighting a real fire with fire fighting equipment and will gain knowledge of chemical spill kits and how to use them.

 

Course Prerequisites

  • There are no restrictions on entry to this course however students are required to have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instruction(s).

 

Unit of Competency

  • Participants who successfully complete all components of the course will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the PUAFER008 Confine small emergencies in a facility unit of competency.

 

Course Assessment

  • Practical assessment with group interaction. Participants must demonstrate competency during a series of practical skills evaluation and verbal assessments. Participants will also complete a theory assessment consisting of multiple choice and short answer questions.

 

Course Delivery & Duration

Classes run over a single day. All students are required to be present 15 minutes before course commencement time. Late arrivals may be refused from the course as a failure to attend. Training occurs at Eagle Training Services training facilities located in Alice Springs.

Participants undertake the course in comfortable, air-conditioned classrooms with the latest IT and audiovisual capabilities. Students are supported through the provision of high quality learning materials and resources.
