A fire risk assessment is a systematic evaluation of the premises and any associated risks that may cause a fire to start, along with the harm it may cause. The main purpose of the fire risk assessment is to identify and assess all fire risks to which ‘relevant persons’ (i.e., staff, visitors) are exposed for the purposes of taking appropriate measures to control and mitigate those risks.
Fire risk assessments are a legal requirement under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, and should be carried out on a regular basis by a suitable qualified person
What is fire risk assessment training?
Fire risk assessment training is a type of training designed to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to carry out fire risk assessments in various types of premises. The training is usually intended for individuals who are responsible for fire safety in their organization, such as facility managers, safety officers, and other designated personnel.
This course provides the training your appointed staff members need to compile these assessments.
Why is fire risk assessment important?
Fire risk assessments are an essential part of managing fire safety in a building. They help to protect people, property, and businesses by minimizing the risks associated with fire.
Who is required to have fire risk assessment training?
There is no specific requirement for individuals to undergo formal fire risk assessment training. However, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, which applies in England and Wales, requires the ‘responsible person’ (usually the employer or the owner of the premises) to ensure that a fire risk assessment is carried out by a competent person. This can be an employee or an external consultant.

You will be assessed throughout your training day to ensure you have understood the principles and practical application of fire risk assessment. At the end of the course, you will be asked to complete a fire risk assessment project to demonstrate your understanding.
Do we receive certificates?
You will receive a certificate of attendance on successful completion of the training day and fire risk assessment project. This is no longer a formal qualification, as your company is now responsible for its own fire safety provision.
How long does a fire risk assessment certificate last?
There is no fixed expiration date for a fire risk assessment certificate. However, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the ‘responsible person’ to review the fire risk assessment regularly and to revise it if necessary, particularly when there are changes to the premises or the way it is used.
