Course Details

It is extremely important that all members of staff are aware of the fire safety procedures in their workplace so they know what to do in the event of a fire. The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, 1974 Health & Safety Act and the Management of Health & Safety regulation require staff to receive appropriate fire training / instruction.

Fire safety training offers guidance on fire prevention, identifying causes of fire, individuals responsibilities (eg Fire Warden Duties), and other very important factors which all contribute to a safe workplace.

The outcome of the Fire Awareness course and Fire Warden course influences the risk of harm from fire and should therefore be regarded as part of the Fire Risk Assessment process.

 

Aims & Objectives:

  • Briefly covers fire legislation
  • Fire prevention
  • Establishing causes of fire
  • What to do in the event of fire, evacuation procedures and what information to provide the fire service
  • Fire Warden Duties (Fire Warden / Fire Marshal responsibilities) – full day course available for Fire Wardens/Fire Marshals
  • Fire Extinguisher types & use of fire extinguishers (eg. Dry powder fire extinguisher, water fire extinguisher, CO2 fire extinguisher, etc)
  • Classes of fire
  • Fire alarms, fire doors, signs & lights
  • Aiding fire risk assessment

The training also covers fire legislation (Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005) and what the requirements are regarding the fire log book.

 

Course includes practical use of a fire extinguisher:

  • Dry powder fire extinguishers – use on wood, liquid, gas & electrical fires
  • Water fire extinguishers - use on wood, paper, textiles & solid material fires
  • Carbon Dioxide (CO2) fire extinguishers – use on liquid & electrical fires
  • Foam fire extinguishers – use on wood & liquid fires

 

Who Should Attend

  • All staff should receive basic fire safety training as part of their work induction
  • Refresher fire training should be given when stated by your employer.
  • Appointed Fire Wardens / Fire Marshals.
