Course Details

This training provides learners with the skills and knowledge to operate as part of an emergency control organisation. It applies to employees within all industries.

It places responsibility on individual employees who are delegated roles within the emergency control organisation and to participate in the preparation of workplace emergency procedures.

This may including raising alarms to report potential workplace emergencies, evaluate the need to evacuate and prepare for an evacuation including evacuating people who may require assistance in accordance with workplace emergency procedures.

This unit has been developed to cover the broad range of emergencies and workplaces as considered in Australian Standard 3745-2010. 

Also included in this training is the skills a knowledge to assess, and safely extinguish small fires within the workplace.

Topics include fire safety awareness, fire fighting equipment and their applications. Course consists of both theory and practical, including theory and practical assessments.

Theory Consists of classroom work involving a powerpoint presentation, group discussions, group activities covering topics in:

  • Emergency situations scenarios
  • Roles and responsibilities of the emergency control organisation (ECO)
  • Roles and responsibilities of the Chief warden
  • How to raise the alarm 
  • Understanding evacuation diagrams and procedures
  • Utilising emergency intercommunication systems
  • Fire safety and evacuation procedures
  • Dynamic risk assessments
  • Liaising with emergency services
  • Record keeping and debriefing 
  • Emergency planning committees
  • Basic fire science
  • Classes of fire
  • Types of fire extinguishers and fire fighting equipment
  • Firefighting skills 
  • Safety precautions
