Course Details

Here at Know-How Training, we are pleased to offer a three-day course in First Aid at Work in Liverpool. This course is also suitable for those who need a refresher course to ensure all skills are up-to-date and to renew necessary certification.

Nominated members of your team should attend this course to enable them to perform first aid duties in the event of an accident in the workplace.

It is essential to have a team of staff with adequate members who can perform first aid, according to the requirements set by the 1981 Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations and the 1982 Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations (Northern Ireland).

At the end of the course, you will be equipped with the skills, knowledge and confidence to save a life as a certified First Aider.

Upon completion, candidates will be awarded a First Aid at Work Level 3 certificate by First Aid Awards (FAA), regulated by Ofqual and SQA Accreditation, which is valid for three years.

 

What the 3-Day First Aid Course Covers

Our course makes sure to cover the legal duties of a First Aider and aim to leave you with a greater understanding of what is involved in the various roles a First Aider fulfils. We will look at the role and what is in your remit as a First Aider.

We will assess examples of emergency situations and cover how to communicate with a patent, and what to do if a casualty is unresponsive. We will cover casualty care and the health and safety regulations pertaining o First Aid, as well as defibrillator pad placement.

You will be taught how to respond to defibrillator prompts, chest paints, including heart attacks and stroke. You will learn how to respond in the event of accidents that involve both minor and severe bleeding; burns and scalds; bone, muscle and joint injuries; eye injuries; head injuries; spinal injuries; choking; and poisoning.

You will also learn how to respond to medical situations, such as asthma attacks, seizures, low blood sugar, and severe allergic reactions, as well as shock, fainting, and resuscitation (adult CPR).

The first aid course in Liverpool covers the legal duties of a First Aider and brings an understanding of what may be required of you in an unfortunate situation.

 

The course will delve into the following pivotal aspects:

  • Your role as a First Aider

  • How to manage an emergency

  • How to communicate with a patient

  • Casualty care

  • Dealing with unresponsive casualty

  • Health and safety (first aid) regulations

  • Defibrillator pad placement

 

You will also learn how to respond to:

  • Asthma attacks

  • Minor and Severe Bleeding

  • Burns and scalds

  • Bone, muscle and joint injuries

  • Choking in adult and babies

  • Chest pains, including heart attack

  • Defibrillator prompts

  • Eye injuries

  • Poisoning

  • Spinal injuries

  • Severe allergic reaction

  • Stroke

 

Entry Requirements

In order to take on this course, it is recommended that candidates hold a minimum of a literacy of First Aid at Work Level 1, or an equivalent. Although this course is suitable for those aged 14-years old and above, it may not be possible to act as a First Aider in the workplace until the age of 16.

As First Aid is a practical subject, assessments will reflect the physical demands of a real-life situation, for example, by performing CPR on a mannequin.

It may be possible to make a reasonable adjustment to candidates with a medical condition, disability or learning need, subject to prior discussion.

 

Assessment Information

  • In addition to the practical assessments, a written assessment will also determine the course outcome. The 30-minute assessment paper consists of 20 multiple-choice questions, with at least 15 correct answers needed in order to pass. You will either pass or be referred.
