Course Details

During our First Aid at Work Initial course, attendees will acquire the essential skills and knowledge to confidently handle medical emergencies in the workplace. Through a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on practical exercises, participants will learn:

First Aid Principles:

Understanding the fundamental principles of first aid, including the primary responsibilities of a first aider and the importance of prompt and effective action in emergency situations.

Assessment and Treatment:

Learning how to assess the scene of an incident, evaluate casualties, and administer appropriate first aid treatment for a range of injuries and medical conditions, including cuts, burns, fractures, cardiac arrest, shock, anaphylaxis, choking and more.

CPR and AED:

Mastering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and gaining proficiency in using automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to respond effectively to cardiac emergencies.

Managing Trauma:

Developing the skills to stabilise and manage traumatic injuries such as bleeding, shock, and head injuries until professional medical help arrives.

Medical Emergencies:

Recognizing the signs and symptoms of common medical emergencies like strokes, seizures, diabetic emergencies, and allergic reactions, and providing appropriate first aid interventions.

Communication and Reporting:

Understanding the importance of clear communication during an emergency, including how to effectively communicate with emergency services and accurately report incidents.

Legal and Ethical Considerations:

Familiarizing themselves with legal and ethical considerations surrounding first aid provision in the workplace, including consent, confidentiality, welfare and humanitarian act, and the Good Samaritan Act.

By the end of the course, attendees will leave with the confidence and competence to respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies, potentially saving lives and promoting a safer working environment for all.
