Sports and Recreation Services provides first aid certification under the Lifesaving Society. This first aid certification is recognized by WSIB and is valid for 2 years. Training is facilitated by our highly experienced First Aid Instructors who have hands-on first aid experience in both aquatic and non-aquatic settings.
We are proud that our courses are taught to students, staff, faculty and families by members of our student-staff team!Training is held at the Western Student Recreation Centre, but can also be facilitated in a location at your choice provided that basic training room requirements are available.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a two day training course, which is similar to Standard First Aid/CPR.
To provide basic first aid knowledge which consists of CPR level A, C, or HCP on request and basic life support skills in a one-day training session.
We are proud to offer a range of CPR and First Aid courses certified by the Canadian Red Cross, including specialized training in emergency first aid, CPR, and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
This course is recognized by the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education.
This 1-day course re-certification is a challenge of the Standard First Aid course content and requires the student to demonstrate essential skills as well as pass the theoretical exam.
