This course will go into great depth in regards to training forklift trainers to become competent instructors, teaching participants the skills required to train adult learners.

It will begin by teaching participants the same program a forklift participant would learn to ensure potential trainers have a solid working knowledge of the forklift.

Participants are then expected to spend up to 30 minutes teaching the SSM forklift course to the other participants to ensure they become comfortable instructing this course at their workplace.

This course includes a written and practical skill assessment to validate training competencies. SSM’s forklift training provides students with the most current legislative information including the new CSA-B335-15 standard changes. Participants will receive a certificate upon successful completion of this course.

Practical Evaluation

Participants will each drive the forklift through the Safety Services Manitoba pre-structured driving course to test driving abilities.

Manitoba Regulation

22.29(1) No employer shall require or permit a worker to operate a powered lift truck unless the employer has issued a certificate to the worker under this section.

22.29(2) No employer shall issue a certificate to a worker to operate a powered lift truck unless the employer has first ensured that the worker.

(a) has received instruction, training and testing in the operation of the powered lift truck in accordance with a code of practice approved and issued under the Act.CSA B335-15

7.1 General

The knowledge and skills listed below are considered the minimum qualifications for lift truck operator trainers.

Trainers should be familiar with the various types and classes of lift trucks for which they provide training, including applications, limitations, and restrictions. Trainers should keep abreast of new teaching methods and technology.

7.2 Qualifications

A lift truck trainer shall have as a minimum the following qualifications:

  • a) the successful completion of a lift truck operator-training course (including all practical elements) that meets the requirements of this Standard (proof of completion to be made available)
  • b) trainers of operators of high-lift, man-up Class 2 lift trucks shall have successfully completed a fall protection course
