Forklift Training
Is a Heavy Equipment training course required for anyone who will be operating a forklift. A driver’s license and 10th grade education is required, and other prerequisites may also include WHMIS training and Standard First Aid.
Learning Objectives & Specific Outcomes:
A forklift is a piece of heavy machinery with two metal prongs on the front to make it possible to lift and transport materials such as crates, boxes or other forms of packaged goods.
While forklifts are very useful in warehouse environments, they can sometimes be required on outdoor projects, introducing hazards such as poor terrain and bad weather. Operators should understand correct forklift operating procedures and know how to manage and prepare for the hazards posed.
Topics Included:
This 1-day Forklift Training Course combines classroom experience with hands-on training. In-class, participants learn how to safely operate a forklift, get to know relevant provincial and federal safety standards, worksite and equipment inspection techniques, safety tips, the principles of stability, and rules of the road.
In the hands-on portion the instructor demonstrates proper operator procedures, covering topics such as safe load handling, startup and shutdown, steering, refueling and/or recharging. Trainees must pass a written exam and demonstrate proficiency with the machine in a hands-on practicum evaluation to successfully complete the course
