While most people think that Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers created the Foxtrot, it was really a Vaudeville performer named Harry Fox who introduced this fun, theatrical dance to the world.
Foxtrot dancers travel around the perimeter of the room in a counter clockwise direction in a basic rhythm of slow-slow-quick-quick. The Foxtrot has always been a classic dance for wedding receptions.
When people think of a dancing legend, Fred Astaire is generally the first to come to mind. Just the mention of Fred Astaire brings up images of dance and grace. Our proud dance heritage began in 1947 when the Master of Dance himself, Mr Fred Astaire, co-founded our company and he has left a lasting impact on the world.
Fred Astaire, being one of the greatest multi-talented dancers of all time, wanted to establish a chain of studios under his name to make sure that his techniques would be preserved and passed on to the public. He was instrumental in our unique instructional techniques and the choice of dance curriculum. The first Fred Astaire Studio opened on Park Avenue in New York City. With this studio, Fred Astaire brought his immense talent onto the dance floors of America and the world.
Fred Astaire once said: “Some people seem to think that good dancers are born. All the good dancers I’ve known have been taught or trained. To me, dancing has always been fun. I enjoy every minute of it. I am glad that I can now put my knowledge to use in bringing personal confidence and a feeling of achievement to so many people”.
Today, there are numerous Fred Astaire Franchised Dance Studios located in cities throughout North America and in many other counties around the globe. Fred Astaire Franchised Dance Studios are required to maintain the highest standards of excellence in dance and this is achieved through our National Dance Board and Fred Astaire Franchised Dance Studios curriculum certification.
Our amateur and professional dancers are living embodiments of the style and grace of Mr Fred Astaire, and our studios have produced a wealth of them.
