Course Details

The French Language courses are designed and structured for the busy working professionals who would like to develop the ability to communicate in French while getting a better insight into the French-speaking world culture and reality.

The competencies achieved through attending the progressive courses will be useful to build confidence so as to enable the individual to understand better the French culture and learn about the Francophone world which is very fast and interesting.

By the end of the courses 1 to 3, the students will have acquired basic communicative competencies useful in selected everyday situations and personal interactions, as well as vital strategies for language learning and language use.

They will also be able to read and understand basic texts and exchange in French on subjects such as self-presentations, likes and dislikes, leisure activities, asking for directions, commenting on the weather, talking about food, fashion and travels, making appointments, choosing an accommodation and expressing agreements and disagreements.

Course Content:

  • Unit 0 Welcome General introduction: greetings, introducing oneself, the days of the week, colours, numbers (0 to 10), useful classroom vocabulary and the alphabet.
  • Unit 1 Who is it? Introducing oneself or someone else, talking about one’s nationality and giving and receiving personal information such as one’s age, nationality, address and languages spoken. Using numbers 11 to 69, negating statements, expressing oneself politely and filling a form.
  • Unit 2 What are we doing this weekend? Talking and identifying commonly used objects, talking about one’s passions and hobbies, telling the time, making plans to go out, wishing someone well and requesting a programme by mail.
  • Unit 3 Where are we going this summer? Talking about the weather, describing a person and where one lives or comes from, discovering a new city, asking and giving directions, expressing one’s needs and desires and sending an e-card.

This course aims at helping students achieve communicative competence in simple everyday situations and personal interaction. The course will also attempt to help students optimise their learning by teaching them vital strategies for language learning and language use.

 

Required Textbook:

No textbook is needed. The learning materials will be prepared and provided by the teacher.
