Alliance Française or simply AF (The French Alliance), is an international organisation that aims to promote the French language and culture around the world.
Created in Paris on 21 July 1883 under the name Alliance française pour la propagation de la language.
Nationale dans les colonies et à l'étranger (French alliance for the propagation of the national language in the colonies and abroad) — now known simply as L'Alliance Française.
The funding members included the scientist Louis Pasteur, the diplomat Ferdinand de Lesseps, the writers Jules Verne and Ernest Renan, and the publisher Armand Colin.
The organisation’s primary concern is teaching French as a second language. Its headquarteres are in Paris.
In 2005, along with the Società Dante Alighieri, the British Council, the Goethe-Institut, the Instituto Cervantes,
And the Instituto Camões, the Alliance Française was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award for outstanding achievements in communications and the humanities.
A fun time awaits you this term! You will learn to describe and buy clothes, talk about food, place an order at a restaurant, and organise a party! You will also build on your conversation skills, learn how to give positive or negative feedback, review a film or play, and convince your friends.
Learn French for everyday situations. We offer French classes that are interactive, communicative and affordable. Step into one of IML’s online or on-campus classes, where you will learn from a qualified French tutor and meet like-minded language students.
The Alliance Française de Canberra is the only certified institution where you can take the DELF/DALF exam in the ACT. It is also the only DELF/DALF training center approved by the French government in the ACT.
A francophile group with a dozen devotees form an informal friendship and social club in Hobart called “Le Cercle Français” (The French Circle). The French Circle gradually expands in membership and activities, formalizing its status by the adoption of a 15-article Constitution.
