Functional Skills equips you with the practical English needed to live, learn and work successfully. The course content will help you develop skills in spelling, punctuation and grammar in your own writing. You will develop your reading skills to identify language features and text structure.
We offer Functional Skills English at Level 1 and Level 2 . Each level is comprised of three modules: Reading, Writing and Speaking & Listening. All three elements need to be successfully completed to obtain the qualification.
Level 1 is the ideal foundation for further study and helps you to develop or refresh your skills. Level 2 is recognised by many employers and universities as a GCSE equivalent.

If you want to improve your skills in a short space of time, then Intensive English is the course for you! While our general English course is 15 hours per week, our Intensive English course is between 20 – 30 hours.
Functional Skills English courses are ideal for adults wishing to refresh their skills. These qualifications will help you progress on to GCSE, other further education or may help you gain employment.

A 2-skill (Speaking & Listening) exam in English, aligned to the B1 level of the CEFR*for individuals who are applying to Transport for London (TfL) to become a licensed London private hire driver.
