Course Details

Regardless of the fashion details, all clothes are meant to be worn on the body – to be moved in, sat in, breathed in, walked in and this relationship of design to fit and movement remains the basic factor in their overall construction.

Students will understand how clothes are cut and shaped and how they can contribute to fit and quality by using the proper techniques. This course will teach how to make the building blocks of a great wardrobe – pants, blouse, skirt, dress, and shirt – as well as learn how to choose and sew garments that flatter your figure and reflect your personal style.

Admission Requirements
• Grade 12 graduate or mature student status (British Columbia 19 years or older)
• Meet minimum English language proficiency requirements.

 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program the successful student will have reliably demonstrated the ability to

  • Identify the components and the correct operation of an Industrial Sewing Machine, Serger and Iron.

  • Identify tools and materials required for apparel construction and define standard methodology.

  • Execute a wide variety of seam structures, finishing techniques and hand stitches.

  • Evaluate industrial patterns for material & supply requirements, pattern layout & sequence of construction.
