Course Details

This course caters for students with a range of sewing abilities who wish to learn more about sewing and garment making. A practical course which includes basic, as well as more advanced sewing techniques and allows students to choose their own project.

The following skills are covered:

  • Use and maintenance of domestic sewing machine and overlockers.
  • Taking measurements and deciding on pattern sizes.
  • Use of commercial patterns, their interpretation and modification.
  • Fabric preparation, layout and cutting out.
  • Basic and advanced garment construction techniques, depending on levels of expertise.

You will choose your own project and be guided through the steps in a supportive environment where you can work at your own pace with the assurance of assistance.
Janome sewing machines and overlockers are on site for you to use.

You will need to purchase the following items:

  • A pattern suitable for your level of expertise
  • Suitable fabric for your pattern
  • Matching threads for your material, pins, marking pencil, pen.
