The gas test atmospheres course is designed for individuals who are required to conduct atmospheric testing of areas within the workplace to determine if it is free of hazards and safe for people to work. These individuals would typically undertake monitoring of potentially hazardous atmospheres in the workplace.

Learning Outcomes
The expected learning outcomes for the nationally recognised Training unit MSMWHS217 Gas test atmospheres are:

ERGT Desired Skills and Knowledge
There are no pre-requisites for this course, however, in order to complete this training within ERGT Australia’s course duration it is recommended (but not mandatory) that trainees are experienced workers that are in fulltime or part time employment.
The trainee should be familiar with workplace hazards associated with tasks covered by permits and related hazard controls.
Trainees should be able to:
understand verbal and written work instructions
communicate with team members about routine operations
recognise that a permit is required before commencing work
plan and organise their own work
monitor and adapt to changing work situations
work effectively with others
recognise emergency situations and act appropriately
identify tools and equipment appropriate for a task

Medical and Health Standards
A medical certificate is not required for the gas test atmospheres course. However, a health questionnaire and declaration of fitness will be required at course registration.

Additional Requirements
A government issued photo identification and valid USI is required for course registration.
Structure and Assessment
This course is delivered using classroom presentations, group discussions, practical demonstrations and exercises. Trainees will demonstrate their competence through written and practical assessment.
