  • Human breathing principles
  • Hazards of wearing SCBA
  • Types of breathing apparatus
  • Understanding the role and functions of key SCBA components
  • Calculating cylinder duration
  • Using a breathing apparatus entry control board
  • Calculating cylinder duration
  • Using a breathing apparatus entry control board
  • Pre-use and pre-operational checks
  • Safety operational practices
  • Post-operational checks and maintenance
  • Assessment - theory and practical exercises performed Practical
  •  Conduct pre and post operational checks of equipment
  • Participate in at least two BA exercises

 

Prerequisites

There are no specific pre-requisites for this course although learners should ensure they do not suffer from a medical condition which could be aggravated by physical or psychological stress and must be over 18 years of age.

Assessment The theory assessment consists of multiple choice and short answer questions. The practical assessment will require Learners to identify components of breathing apparatus equipment and detail safe entry and work requirements, demonstrate pre-operation pressure tests, safe SCBA work practices, and SCBA
