Our adult class is especially designed to support anyone wishing to learn German in a fun relaxed way. Perhaps you are the only person in your family who does not speak any German, perhaps you would like to be able to help your children with their homework.
Or perhaps you have an opportunity to work in Germany but need to get a beginners knowledge base quickly. This is your class! We start at the beginning and work at a pace that fits the needs and abilities of our students.
Our Classes:
Each class will be full immersion. To maximuize individual attention each class will have between 5-9 students. Each class will comprise 28 lessons and all students are invited to attend our holiday luncheon, St. Martin’s procession and our end of year picnic.
We intend to offer almost all of our classes in-person. Should the health guidelines change and require distance learning, we are prepared to do so. We will be offering one or more online classes. This means you do not need to live in San Diego or even California, for that matter, to learn German in our small boutique language and culture classes!
The House of Germany is a cultural organization whose purpose is to inform the general public about the music, traditions, history, and the culture of Germany. While most people join because either they, their spouse or their ancestors were born in Germany, membership application is open to any person who wishes to learn German or learn about Germany or the German culture.
Members also volunteer during Saturdays or Sundays at our cottage while welcoming visitors and serving drinks and apple strudel. Kinderwerkstatt is open to children and teenagers ages 4-17. Classes begin in September. Registration is now open for classes.
We now offer "German for Adults" classes. These are small classes with few students in a fun environment. The teacher, a German native, and students will set their goals together, depending on previous exposure to the German language.
In this course, the student will be able to develop socially and culturally appropriate proficiency in interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes at the novice high level in German. Prerequisite: GER 1120 with a grade of "C" or higher.
German language course is offered from beginner to advanced level.
For adults, we offer beginner, intermediate and advanced classes. Each teacher will accommodate the needs of the students on an individual basis and prepare the curriculum accordingly.
The German Program at the School of Modern Languages offers a minor in German, as well as undergraduate and graduate degrees in German. We provide students with an integrative academic education that emphasizes linguistic and cultural proficiency, intercultural studies, and applied language use.
For those whose interest isn’t Spanish, we also offer several other languages such as French, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, German, Portuguese, Arabic, Hindi and more.
