German-speakers are world leaders in engineering and rank high in the field of physics, chemistry and science. It is the second most common scientific language. (Albert Einstein is a notable native German speaker.)

There have been eleven Nobel Prizes in Literature granted to German language writers and numerous Germans have received the Nobel Peace Prize. It is a very alive language, one of the ten most commonly spoken languages in the world, being an official language of Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Belgium. It is also widely spoken in eastern Europe.

The German culture is rich in literature and philosophy (Goethe, Kafka) and music (Bach, Beethoven) and art. Exposure to the German culture through its language is a means of deepening ones understanding and appreciate of German contributions to the international community.
