The adult classes concentrate on communication. Through discussions of current events, cultural issues, and customs of the German speaking countries, fluency in speaking is achieved. Grammar, vocabulary, idiomatic phrases, and German proverbs are introduced and continuously reviewed in textbooks, as well as through worksheets and grammatical games.
The school sees homework as an essential part of learning and as an extension of classroom instruction. In advanced classes, weekly assignments will be given infrequently throughout the school year. Classes are Saturdays from 9am to 12pm with a 30-minute recess. Snacks are available for purchase from the “cake table” during a break each Saturday.
Textbooks are procured directly from Germany and sold at cost to students. Each class typically has a course book and a workbook, selected each year by the teacher from renowned publishers of German language course books. In addition, students are encouraged to check out German books and media from our library at no additional charge.
The South Bay Deutscher Schulverein (SBDS) makes learning German easy with our contemporary curriculum, methodology and teaching philosophy. Dedicated and experienced staff from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland teach children, teens, and adults of all levels.

In this course, the student will be able to develop socially and culturally appropriate proficiency in interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational modes at the novice high level in German. Prerequisite: GER 1120 with a grade of "C" or higher.
Our courses at Goethe-Zentrum Atlanta correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and range from A1 for beginners to C2 for language skills at the highest level.
Our German courses emphasize modern spoken German. From the first class meeting, students and instructors alike speak as much German as possible. Grammar is studied not as an exclusively abstract system, but as a reference base for active language use.
