The courses are structured to meet the needs of every student in a blended learning environment. Each student will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of diverse activities and interactive tasks.
These self-directed learning practices are aimed at fostering an environment in which students can work at a pace best suited to individual learning needs in developing their language skills.
The self-correcting grammar exercises are designed to enhance the acquisition of language structures by providing ample practice and on-going self-evaluation. The learning activities allow students to measure success and target areas of weakness.
They further assist the teacher in identifying and promptly addressing targeted areas of weakness in a one-on-one exchange.
Incorporated into the program is an oral component. Students will have a regular weekly phone/video lesson with their teacher to practise their spoken Modern Greek.
This is a valuable opportunity for them to seek further assistance and support from their teacher. The written component in their course work will be submitted for correction upon completion of each module of work.
Note: A face to face lesson day is scheduled once a term onsite at NSL in Petersham. Relevant information is distributed to students and their home schools ahead of the lesson day.
For Year 9 students, all the learning materials are available in the e-learning class in Canvas. It is not necessary to purchase additional resources. The course contains a variety of interactive learning activities which cater for all levels of knowledge.
There are 32 modules to complete, ranging in topics such as hobbies and interests, celebrations, food, school. The course programs provide an excellent environment for the learner to gain proficiency and confidence through a flexible approach and a variety of innovative activities.
For Year 10 students the learning materials are online. The topics range from holidays, free time, apps, traditional recipes to talking about films, etc.
The Year 10 Modern Greek 100 hour course is designed for students who have not previously studied Modern Greek. Students who have completed the 100 hour course are eligible for enrolment in the Stage 6 Modern Greek Beginners course.
Modern Greek Beginners
The Stage 6 Modern Greek Beginners course is a new course developed by the NSW School of Languages for students with very little or no prior study of the language. It is delivered online via the Canvas learning platform.
Students complement their online written and aural work with a weekly speaking lesson in which they practice Modern Greek with their teacher through prescribed and adequately scaffolded speaking activities.
Students cover a range of syllabus topics and language features via interactive self-correcting activities, whole-group digital interactions and discussions, and the production of creative texts.
The online course is complemented by a face-to-face lesson day once every term. Students attend NSL to meet each other and their teachers, to learn together via a range of specially designed learning activities, including games, competitions, Greek cooking and experiencing traditional Greek food.
Modern Greek Continuers
The online Modern Greek Continuers Course has been created to meet the Syllabus Objectives and Course Outcomes.
In teaching the prescribed topics and subtopics, the online course provides a flexible structure giving students the capacity to manage their own learning using a more innovative approach to the study of language.
Students are able to access all programmed activities on the e-learning site. There are also links to other sites for maximum exposure to Modern Greek and to provide an appreciation of the social and cultural context in which it is used.
The online language exercises enable students to gain proficiency through graded, self-correcting exercises and immediate feedback.
Ample practice is provided for students to develop their comprehension and writing skills through a number of diverse tasks which they are required to submit for correction upon completion of each unit of work.
The blended learning environment is designed to stimulate learning, providing a variety of activities and interactive exercises.
Incorporated into the program is also an oral component in which students will engage with their teachers on a weekly basis to practise their spoken Modern Greek. This further provides the students with the opportunity to seek assistance and support, and to have an informal exchange with their teacher.

Student learning is supported through a diverse program of online learning materials, speaking lessons, video conferencing, online forums, email and study days at our school where students enjoy the opportunity to meet with other students and staff.
The use of the telephone and video conferencing ensure that students have close connections with their teachers, despite the fact that they are not in the same physical space. Our students are drawn from over 460 schools across the greater Sydney metropolitan area and other rural regions across New South Wales.
The school also offers Stage 6 English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) to students in regional government secondary schools. In the 2020 Higher School Certificate (HSC), 69% of our students achieved results above the state mean and NSW School of Languages students achieved First in State in 11 courses. Fifty-five students were placed in High Achievers List, earning marks placing them in top 5 in the state.
Of the 820 HSC students, 65% of students achieved a mark in the top two bands. Of the students studying an Extension course, 96% of students achieved in the top 2 bands.
The school has written new courses in Canvas for Year 9, 10, Year 11 and 12 Beginners and Extension students. These courses represent the latest pedagogy in online learning. Teachers will continue participating in professional learning on language pedagogy, assessment, and working with students with special needs.
Teachers at NSW School of Languages are experts in their language. More than half of the staff assist the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) to mark the HSC each year with a significant number involved in the setting or assessment of the examinations.

Greek course is offered by CBD Languages. Our classes are designed for adults and children from complete beginners to Advanced levels.
At the end of your course you will receive a Certificate of Completion, detailing what you studied, for how many hours, and your final level. While our courses are not accredited by any university or similar institution, we can dedicate a portion of your course to exam prep.

Greek Beginner Students who have finished 20 hours of Greek Beginner 1. Learners understand Greek alphabets and can write very simple Greek sentences. The learners should have the ability to understand simple sentences and make simple conversations.
