Northern Music Centre offers private tuition in a wide range of musical instruments, including piano, keyboard, saxophone, clarinet, flute, drums and many more.
We currently teach in excess of 450 students per week and have taught over 330,000 individual lessons since we opened in September 1996.
Our youngest student is 6, our oldest over 80! Over 40% of our students are adults – many starting to learn an instrument for the first time. We have seven dedicated teaching studios, each equipped with pianos, both acoustic and digital.
All tuition is given on a one-to-one basis. This allows the teacher to tailor the lesson to the individual student – working on the weaknesses and building on the strengths.
Most students have a 30 minute lesson each week. Some students, especially those who are working at an advanced level, or those who travel a distance to the Centre for their lessons, may require longer.
The NMC is an examination centre for both the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College of Music. Students interested in entering for either practical or theory examinations are encouraged to do so. However, exams are not obligatory – many students preferring not to take this option.

Feel tuned into the low end of music? Whether it's providing the driving, rhythmic force that powers today's rock and pop classics, the irresistable, get-up-and-dance groove in funk, or the soaring melodic virtuosity in prog rock, the bass guitar has a compelling presence.
Learning the bass guitar can involve many things. Working on your hand technique, memorising your notes on the fretboard, and understanding how notes all work together. You will learn about keys, riff, scales and chords, and how to use them in an appropriate way
Whether you’re looking to play the acoustic guitar for the first time, brush up on your skills after a break from making music, or aiming to get a distinction at Grade 8, our experienced and highly qualified music educators will help you on your journey to learning to play the acoustic guitar.
