Farsi is spoken today primarily in Iran and Afghanistan. Significant populations of speakers can be found in other Persian Gulf countries (Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, Yemen, and the United Arab Emirates), as well as large communities in the US.
Classical Persian remained essentially unchanged until the nineteenth century, when the dialect of Teheran rose in prominence, having been chosen as the capital of Persia by the Qajar dynasty in 1787. This Farsi (Modern Persian) dialect became the basis of what is now called Contemporary Standard Persian. Arabic vocabulary has also extensively influenced Farsi.

Farsi is the Persian language as spoken predominantly in Iran, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and parts of the Middle East. In Afghanistan it is known as Dari, although it is essentially the same Persian language.
Farsi course is offered by Hil Liverpool. Our courses are taught by highly qualified and experienced teacher who are extremely dedicated to ensuring you leave with all the necessary skills to broaden your horizons and never be lost for words again.
It is sometimes assumed, on the basis of its script, that Persian is related to Arabic. This is false. As an Indo-European language of the Indo-Iranian branch. Persian is closely related to Kurdish and Pashto and even more closely related to Dari (an official language of Afghanistan) and to Tajik.
We offer a wide variety of languages from complete beginners through to advanced level. If you're unsure of your level, you can take our online test designed to determine the best class for you. Classes take place in the evening or on Saturdays.
