Course Details

This course is designed for all industries, from Oil and Gas, to Utilities, Petrochemical, Pulp and Paper, Upgrading and Nuclear Power Generation. This course meets OH&S requirements for theory training for H2S.

Companies choose this course to provide awareness to staff who will not be expected to rescue a co-worker from an H2S environment.

Alternatively, it can also be used as Part 1 of blended training where the employer plans to teach the Part 2 practical training at a later date.

Why is H2S training important?

Hydrogen Sulphide is fatal with even a single breath in concentrations above .07%, to put this into perspective, much of the western Canadian Sedimentary Basin has concentrations of 1% or more. Fields containing up to 45% are common along the Rockies. The biggest mistake untrained worker make, is overestimating their abilities to rescue a co worker. This typically leads to multiple fatalities.

What will I learn?

  • H2S Theory

  • H2S Measurement

  • Health Hazards

  • Gas Detection

  • Gas Monitor Function Test and Bump Test

  • Calibrating a Monitor

  • Protecting yourself using Respiratory Protection Equipment

  • Donning and Inspecting SCBA and SABA

  • H2S Emergency Response Planning

The training video takes approximately 3 hours to complete, and contains a variety of video segments and activities. The activities are designed to ensure competence.
