Hand Powered Tools And Hand Tools Safety

The course covers a variety of tools used in construction maintenance and garden maintenance, the extent of these may vary, but specific tools used can be raised on the course to discuss their safe use. This course is limited mainly to tools which are held in the hand(s) and operated with the hands while standing.

The course does not include driver operated equipment or remote control equipment. Hazards and controls are included such as vibration, noise, fumes, dust and how equipment can be used and / or adapted to reduce these hazards and where they can be eliminated. A selection of non powered hand tools such knives, chisels, hammers etc are also included and the associated hazards and controls.

Personal protective equipment to deal with certain hazards is also included and guidance on selection and standards that are needed depending on the hazards involved. This course is classroom based and does not involve the practical use of the tools but it does include the safe use to avoid hazards and injuries. It also includes where specific training is required owing to high risk tools.
