Course Details

Persons Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) at a workplace have obligations under the legislation in relation to hazardous chemicals. This obligation also applies to other persons such as importers and suppliers of hazardous chemicals. 

This course will give participants an understanding of the use, handling and storage of hazardous chemicals and mixtures.

It also identifies how workers can be effectively involved in the process of hazardous chemicals management by identifying associated risks and minimising those risks as required by legislation.

A practical risk assessment activity is incorporated in the training. Participants are encouraged to bring workplace documentation such as Safety Data Sheets and Chemical Risk Assessments for use during activities.

  • Legislation – WHS Act, Regulation, Codes of practice
  • GHS – Globally Harmonised System of classification
  • Decanting, Storage, Spills, PPE and First Aid
  • Health effects and emergency plans
  • Risk assessment- Review of SafeWork Australia risk assessment for Hazardous Chemicals and risk matrix
  • Safety Data Sheets – 16 sections review
  • Hazardous chemicals register and training records
  • Practical Assessment of own SDS
  • Practical Session – new chemicals and existing chemicals – risk assessment and SDS review
  • Visit of chemical storage area and risk review

 

Delivery

  • Training is delivered face to face and includes a written assessment.

 

Award and Recognition

  • Successful participants will be awarded with a Statement of Attendance.
