Individuals who wish to take part in the “H” endorsement training will need to complete specific criteria involved with hauling hazardous materials and tankers.
A Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) endorsement is required for all Commercial Drivers who hope to take and deliver materials that are deemed hazardous by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). Some examples of this include explosives, gases, poisons, and radioactive materials.
Drivers who possess this endorsement have greater specific responsibilities than those of the standard professional truck driver. This endorsement also offers drivers other incentives, including being more sought after by companies and carriers, more career opportunities, and higher wages on average.
Any Class A CDL truck driver that wants to add this endorsement to their license can now do Hazmat training at Georgia Driving Academy. Due to the ELDT mandate that went into effect on February 7, 2022, the Hazmat classroom training program must be completed before taking the state written test at the BMV or DMV. Georgia Driving Academy’s six (6) hour training is affordable and has flexible schedules for any experienced or entry-level truck driver.
Specialized “H” Endorsement Training
Individuals who wish to take part in the “H” endorsement training will need to complete specific criteria involved with hauling hazardous materials and tankers. This criteria includes:
Hazardous material-specific pre-trip inspection
Vehicle operations with a tanker (high center of gravity, fluid-load subject to surge and the effects, partial load effects, etc.)
Cargo inspection
Properties and hazards of material being transported
Georgia Driving Academy, Inc. (GDA) was started by Brad Barber in August 1995. Mr. Barber had grown up with his parents owning Barber’s Driving School in Columbus, GA. For over 40 years their school has offered automobile training. In 1994 Barber’s Driving School added a truck driver training program. Mr. Barber had spent approximately a year and a half working for his parent’s commercial driver training school in Columbus, GA (Accident-Free America), when he elected to leave to start his own school.
The first 180-hour Class A training program was offered by GDA on January 8, 1996. The class consisted of two students and to date, the school has graduated well over 15,000 Class A drivers. The first 70-hour Class B training program (formerly 60-hour program) was offered on February 24, 1997. The class consisted of one student and since this time GDA has graduated over 1,200 students through this program.
