This unit applies to personnel who respond to an incident involving dangerous goods and hazardous substances and who have the skills and knowledge to identify and assess the hazards and risks as well as contribute to the development, implementation and review of the plan constructed to mitigate the risk posed to the public and environment.
‘Hazardous materials incident’ is a generic term used to refer to an incident involving any material such as dangerous goods and hazardous substances that poses an unreasonable risk to life, property and the environment.
The unit is applicable to personnel from the emergency services, volunteer organisations and associated industries.
