HazMat

Course Introduction

This introductory course is required if you directly handle or affect hazardous material or waste transportation safety. This course includes a brief introduction to HazMat and then focuses on job specific training on one or two of the following tasks: Loading, unloading, preparing, transporting, and preparing manifests or placarding for hazardous material shipments.

This course meets and exceeds the task specific training requirements for job specific DOT regulations.

Topics Include

• Requirements of the DOT regulations relative to the transportation of hazardous materials.
• Basic safety elements, including recognition and identification of hazardous materials, as required by the DOT regulations.
• Basic operations required for handling emergencies involving hazardous materials for the DOT Hazmat Employee.
• Hazardous Materials Table (49 CFR 172.101), Labels and Placards, and Shipping Papers.
• DOT hazard classes and associated them with the appropriate placards for use in transportation.

Then choose up to 2 of the following task specific topics:

• Packaging
• Loading/ Unloading
• Transporting
• Preparing manifests
• Placarding
