Hazmat Responder

This course allows the student to respond to emergency incidents that involve hazardous materials including decontamination processes, while maintaining personal safety.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

• At fire and other emergency incidents, demonstrate knowledge of potential hazards; and protection of personal safety.

• explain decontamination procedures.

• Prepare and set up decontamination facilities in emergency situations.

• Decontaminate people, equipment and material in emergency situations.

• Carry out decontamination recording and reporting duties.

The course focuses on:

• Personal safety at fire and emergency
  incidents.

• Hazards that may be encountered.

• Various labelling systems including symbols, numbers, UN class numbers, emergency information panels.

• Personal protective equipment including differing levels of protection required.

• Stage 1-3 decontamination requirements.

• Case studies.

• Practical activities.
