Respond to Incidents Involving Hazardous Materials. The purpose of ERGT’s HAZMAT course is to provide personnel with the skills and knowledge required to safely combat incidents involving hazardous materials.

Training Standard Pre-requisites
Trainees must have obtained the Unit of Competency for the units prescribed below before attending this HAZMAT training course. PUAFIR210 Prevent injury is the pre-requisite unit for PUAFIR324 Render hazardous materials incidents safe.
PUAFIR207 Operate breathing apparatus open circuit is the pre-requisite unit for PUAFIR308 Employ personal protection at a hazardous materials incident.
ERGT Desired Skills and Knowledge
It is recommended that participants are full time employees and existing members of an emergency response team. They will have the skills and corresponding knowledge of how to:
respond to fire emergencies,
operate fire extinguishing equipment such as fire hoses, branches and extinguishers,
undertake search and rescue,
operate breathing apparatus, and;
identify hazards and applying control measures according to procedures.
Medical and Health Standards
A medical certificate is not required for this course, however a health questionnaire and declaration of fitness will be required at course registration. Please contact ERGT for any concerns regarding completion of practical training and assessment requirements and to discuss options for reasonable adjustments.
Additional Requirements
A government issued photo identification and valid USI is required for course registration.
Structure and Assessment
The HAZMAT training course is delivered through classroom presentations, group discussions, practical demonstrations and practical exercises. Trainees will demonstrate their competence through both a written and practical assessment.
Skills Maintenance:
In alignment with industry expectations and to ensure ongoing competence and capability ERGT recommends skills maintenance be conducted every 2 years.
