This course covers the skills and knowledge required to select, don, test and safely operate appropriate personal protective clothing and equipment at an incident involving dangerous goods and hazardous chemicals as well as safely combatting incidents involving hazardous materials.
It will also provide you with the skills and knowledge to respond to incidents where you are required to use specific equipment to detect airborne contaminates, liquids and solids at a hazardous materials incident.
Students who attend and successfully meet all assessment requirements of the course will receive a nationally recognised statement of attainment with the following unit of competency: PUAFIR324 Render hazardous materials incidents safe,
PUAFIR306 Identify, detect and monitor hazardous materials at an incident & PUAFIR308 Employ personal protection at a hazardous materials incident

This course provides learners with the skills and knowledge to provide an initial first response in order to contain an incident and/or secure the immediate area in order to minimise resultant damages and loss should a hazardous materials spill occur.
