The qualification is particularly suited to learners who have the relevant interest and capability to progress in this sector as the course aims to inspire and enthuse you by strengthening your ability to work with others, improve your problem-solving skills, develop your independent study, personal learning and thinking skills; all of which are essential skills and attributes prized by employers.
A work placement in a health care setting is required as part of this course providing you with a wider understanding and practical skills required for success in employment in the caring services as well as further study at level 3.
If you are aged 16 to 18, you will be enrolled on a study programme. This will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven’t already achieved a grade 4 or above.
You will take part in activities that help you to develop your personal skills, such as building your character and confidence. This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career.
If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities.
For other age groups, activities will be tailored to your needs.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
Units of study cover a wide variety of topics that prepare you for work or further study in the health and social care sector. Topics for study include Equality, Diversity and Rights in Health and Social Care, Communication in Health and Social Care, Working in Health and Social Care.
The programme will also help you to develop skills that are essential for the modern-day workplace including team working, working to deadlines, and presenting information effectively. If you have not yet achieved your English and maths at GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent, then you will also be timetabled to study English and maths classes too.

This course will be offered at multiple start dates throughout the academic year. To gain this qualification students will need to achieve 11 mandatory units.
