Our hip hop classes follow a more “open” style of teaching. This means that although students may spent 2 or 3 years at the same level (e.g Junior) the work will be tailor-made to suit the ability of the class.
DurationOur hip hop uniform is under review - please check back in the new year. Beginner Hip Hop is currently first level hip hop class. Students are taught the fundamental steps of the hip hop style. Simple "linking" steps are also introduced. Exercises have a focus on technique, style and performance.
Students in Beginners have the opportunity to enter a NZAMD Medal Test and/or to perform in our annual End of Year Recital.
Anna Lee School of Dance is one of the premiere dance schools in the greater Christchurch area.
We have studios in Papanui, Sumner, Ferrymead, Halswell and the Selwyn District, students have the opportunity to learn dance styles including ballet, jazz, hip hop and contemporary.
Our ALSD prides itself in providing a high standard of technical teaching that enables students to sit exams and medal tests if they wish. Anna Lee School of Dance has a proven history of students excelling with superb exam, medal and competition results.
Past pupils from the school have gone on to train full time and dance, in both New Zealand and abroad, as well as current students training at the New Zealand School of Dance in their Associate Program.
Dance classes are tailored for pre-schoolers through to advanced students. The fun and supportive environment with its’ emphasis on enjoyment ensures students feel comfortable as they learn to dance.
ALSD caters for all levels of commitment. We acknowledge and support all the different reasons our students choose to dance and we strive to provide classes that will cater for every student’s needs, whether it be for fitness and fun, or in the hope of entering into a career in dance.

Hip hop dance is an umbrella term that covers a variety of urban and street-dance styles, primarily performed to hip hop music.
We offer NZAMD hip hop syllabus work as well as open hip hop work. Students have the option of sitting exams, medals or just enjoying the fun energetic classes.
Hip-hop is ideal for those who love a relaxed environment where you can express yourself freely and move with the beat.
