Once you have become confident with the basics, you will be able to make anything from hats, scarves and baby wear, to cushions, toys and bags. The first classes will concentrate on learning basic stitches, reading patterns and following diagrams.
This will be done by learning to make a simple motif. When multiplied and joined together, you can use this one design to make a blanket or cushion, or even toys and bags.
When you’ve mastered your first project, and want to be challenged further, you might like to learn more complex crochet stitches by making a sampler cushion or blanket. To inspire you, I will bring along samples of Aron and cable crochet, crochet mandalas, and tapestry crochet.
What to bring:
Week 1 – 2: A 4 mm crochet hook & four coordinating colours of 8 ply or double knitting yarn (you only need remnants, not full balls of yarn for the first classes).
Weeks 3 – 4: Once you have chosen the project you would like to make you will be required to bring your own materials.
This course is supported by the TEC (Tertiary Education Commission) to assist with literacy and numeracy needs of students. You must attend 80% of the class. At the same time we hope you will learn other useful and interesting skills and have a lot of fun learning with us.
