City Dance was founded in 2003. We shifted to online only classes during the Covid lockdowns but opened up for in person instruction on Fridays and Sundays only this past June. We will host all of our classes again starting in September at a brand new facility that we will share again with City Ballet School.
This class is an experience that allows students to be exposed to House culture through the history, music and dance. Here we will navigate through the depths of house dance through its foundations.
House includes a foundation of Footwork, Jacking, Lofting, and Floorwork. This dance form was born in the Chicago club scene and expanded in the clubs of New York. It emphasizes fast and complex steps combined with fluid movements in the torso.
This class will break down the basic rhythms and moves of house dance such as jacking, shuffle, loose leg, and more.
Sekou's method focuses on the development of stamina and high-energy movement. He teaches foundation drills designed to help the student evolve and internalize the spirit of House dance.
House Dance Classes are offered by DonnaMation for all ages and skill level. Dance has the power to make us feel more alive and inside our bodies.
