This unit covers the competency required to use specific equipment to detect airborne contaminants, liquids, and solids.  This unit replaces PUAFIR307B Monitor Hazardous Atmospheres & PUAFIR316 Identify, detect, and monitor hazardous materials at an incident.

No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.  This unit applies to personnel required to detect and identify contaminants at a hazardous materials-incident using specialist equipment to identify the materials, assess the risk posed by the material identified and formulate a plan for their safe isolation and removal.   

 

This unit contains both practical and theory assessment. Elements include:

  • Assess hazardous materials incident

  • Identify and assess hazards at incident

  • Develop an entry plan

  • Implement entry plan

  • Review entry plan

 

The pre-requisite for this unit is PUAFIR207 Operate breathing apparatus open circuit to those individuals within the fire sector or the units contributing to the attainment of a fire qualification.
